JOAN MALKERSONArtist Statement Artists: Who could blame them for doing hommage to the beauty of the world? I like to bring to light or unveil a core, a spirit, an inward nature of an object, scene or person. I go inside to find the soul, heart or attributes within. Always curious, I search with a joyful spirit. Joan Malkerson opened Malkerson Gallery 408 in Carrizozo in 2005. In collaboration with Cindy Johnson who initiated the first World Art Day celebration, April 15, 2018 in Carrizozo, I organized twenty-five artists to participate in an installation for the occasion. Each artist chose a country to represent by painting an old fence post in the flag colors of that country. The installation commenced with a parade to the public sculpture garden on Twelfth Street. The post holes were organized in concentric circles. The colorful installation is inviting and easy to walk in and around and enjoy.
